Thursday Talks: The Series I Started and I’m Not Planning to Continue Reading

Hello, lovelies! How are you? I hope you are all doing great!

For today’s Thursday Talks, I want to talk about the series which I’ve read the book one, but I’m not planning to read the sequels to it. Well, it is not because the series is bad. I totally enjoyed reading the book one, but do you know the feeling of being contented already with it? Or having this feeling that you don’t like to follow the story anymore even if you loved the book one? That’s the situation that I currently have.

So, what series am I talking about?

1. Divergent Series by Veronica Roth

I loved the idea behind this book, but, I’m not that invested with the characters’ journey for me to continue reading book two.

2. Legend Series by Marie Lu

I don’t know what to feel about this book. I loved it, but I just lost interest in the other books. Now, that there is news about a fourth book coming soon, I’m a little bit moved to read them, especially the description of Rebel seems really interesting. But, still, I’m not making a move to grab the book two of this series yet.

3. Mara Dyer Series by Michelle Hodkin

Ahhh I love the book one. But, like the other series, I’m not sure if I still plan to read the book two of this series.

4. A Series of Unfortunate Events by Lemony Snicket

Oh no. I definitely won’t continue reading the sequels for this one. I know that the author wants to tell a message here, but I just can’t handle the situation of the characters. I find the story quite triggering for me. So this is definitely a series that I will never read again.

5. The Heroes of Olympus Series by Rick Riordan

I love Rick Riordan for writing PJO, but for this series and his other series, I’m not yet sure if I still want to read them. As for this one, I was able to finish two books, and I’m already at book three, which I’m supposedly still be reading because if I still remember, I only got to the middle part.

6. The Raven Cycle Series by Maggie Stiefvater

This is quite interesting, but I don’t think I still plan to follow the story anymore.

7. Unwind Dystology by Neal Shusterman

I’ve read book one, and it is creepy if something like this would happen in the future. I find it an unhuman how something like this becomes legal in the story, and how they chose the kids who will be unwound. But, despite its interesting plot, I don’t want to read the other books in the series anymore.

And, these are the series that I’m not planning to read anymore. Of course, for now, that’s how I feel for these series right now, but who knows? Maybe, I’ll pick the book two and other sequels in the future. But, now, I’ll just leave it at the back of my TBR list and let other readers enjoy them.

Thanks for reading!

Let’s talk!

How about you? Do you also have a series which you don’t want to read the following books in it anymore? Or are there a series which you’ve gone tired of after reading some books in it?

  1. I read the first 3 books of the Divergent Series, but I’m not going to read the fourth one and I’m okay with that. There are so many other books I would rather read! I liked Divergent and thought it had a lot of potential but it just didn’t head in the direction I wanted. They were also supposed to make a fourth movie but that never happened either.

  2. I read all of Divergent, and honestly, you won’t be missing out. I really felt like it needed so much more development in all the books, the factions were neat but it seemed silly that there were so few, and that like the Dauntless were just so utterly useless lolol.

  3. Iā€™m probably in the minority that chose Divergent over Hunger Games. I never did finish the series though so I reread the first two and have plans on finishing the series next month.

As for some of the others you mentioned, I want to at least try them so I know where I stand on them.

  4. I’ve only attempted to read the Divergent series, but I never got into it enough to go far. A Series of Unfortunate Events has a movie, which I watched and quite liked, but I don’t see myself reading the series anytime soon.

    • I watched the first episode of A Series of Unfortunately Events on Netflix, and it’s cool, but I keep getting frustrated with their story. So, I didn’t watch the other episodes.

  5. Aww, I’ve only read (and still reading) A Series of Unfortunate Events and I’m stuck with Book 5? As you said, the situations in which the characters are thrown are horrible and simply disheartening, but I cannot get enough of Lemony Snicket’s quirky writing with dry wit!!
